The Hindu Young World Quiz 2012 in Hubli today

The regional final of the The Hindu Young World Quiz 2012 will be held at The Deshpande Foundation, BVB Engineering College, here on Friday. An integral part of The Hindu in School (THiS) programme, the competition is expected to attract talented young minds from Dharwad, Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Gadag, Chitradurga and Uttara Kannada districts.

About 200 teams have already confirmed their participation with many more expected to register at the venue. The competition is open for students from classes VII to IX.

Teams are expected to report at the venue by 11.30 a.m. and the written preliminary round of the quiz will start at 12.30 p.m. after which six teams will be shortlisted for the regional final on stage. Quizmaster V. V. Ramanan will explain the rules of the competition. Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Sameer Shukla is the chief guest at the valedictory function and will give away prizes to the winners.

The winning team will represent Hubli at the grand finale at Chennai on December 7.

The Hindu will meet the cost of travel, boarding and lodging of the team and for one accompanying parent or teacher.

The winning team from Hubli will not only receive trophies and certificates but also a purse of Rs.12,000 and carry home goodies from sponsors. The first runner-up will receive a cash prize of Rs. 8,000, while the second runner up Rs. 6,000 and trophies as well as certificates. All the participants will receive certificates. In addition, there will be plenty of other prizes for the participants and audience. The prize money for the winner in the grand finale at Chennai is Rs. 50,000. The second prize will be Rs. 40,000 and the third Rs. 30,000. The fourth, fifth and sixth places will carry Rs. 10,000 each.
