Until this week, there was a lot of confusion over whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would attend the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan government is accused of human rights violations committed against Sri Lankan Tamils during its civil war. On one side several Congress ministers and regional parties were insisting that the PM boycott the summit to show India's solidarity with the Tamils. This is depicted by the party leaders pushing the PM away from the flight to Sri Lanka. On the other hand, the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of External Affairs wanted him to go for the meeting to maintain diplomatic ties with the neighbour country, as is seen by the group pushing him towards the flight.
