Parents, students and staff of Naipunnya School held a candle light vigil on Diwali to express solidarity with Malala Yousufzai, the Pakistani school girl and education activist who was shot by Taliban gunmen last October in Swat province of Pakistan. They took an oath to stand united to fight for human rights, especially the rights of the girl child for education, freedom and dignity. After the oath, the gathering sang the universal hymn for peace composed by Francis of Assisi. Naipunnya School has declared this week as “Malala Week” with a variety of programmes on the theme of Malala.

School manager Fr. Mathew Manavalan, Vice-Principal Mrs. Mary Sabu, parent representatives Dr. Sagitha Sunil, Bindhu K Thomas, Reji Varghese and Joseph N.J. were among the organizers.
