The stage is set for the 53rd State School Art Festival beginning here on Monday.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the week-long fete, tipped to be the largest such in Asia, on Monday evening. Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb will preside over the function. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed will be the chief guest.
A meeting of the organising committee held here on Saturday reviewed the arrangements for the festival in view of the non-cooperation of a section of teachers who are on strike in protest against the contributory pension scheme. Mr. Rabb presided over the meeting.
The meeting reshuffled the subcommittees in order to go ahead with the fete in view of the teachers’ strike. The large pandal erected at MSP Grounds was dedicated to the festival at a function here on Saturday. As many as 12,000 students from across the State are expected for the festival, tipped to be the largest ever to be held in the State. Fourteen new events have been added in this year’s festival.
Students will compete in 232 events to display their talents. As many as 18 stages have been arranged. Director of Public Instructions (DPI) A. Shajahan will hoist the festival flag on Monday morning. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.
The cultural festival will begin from Kottappadi Stadium at 2.30 p.m.
