State meet to discuss education system

Children should have more space and time for physical activity during school hours and this is gradually getting more and more difficult to manage. As a result, physical and psychological problems among children at a very young age have become common, paediatrician and vice president of the Reception Committee, M. Surya Kumari said.

Addressing the media here on Monday on the two-day 5{+t}{+h}State level Students’ Conference scheduled to begin here on Friday, she blamed parents as well as the school managements for the state of affairs.

The two-day conference being organised by All India Democratic Students’ Organisation would discuss, among other subjects, issues facing the students and the education system, lack of focus on character building, falling quality of education and its increasing commercialisation, AIDSO State secretary D. Raghavendra said.

With the privatisation of education, colleges and universities are mushrooming in the country; they are operating out of buildings that lack basic infrastructure, professor of Andhra University Department of Communication and Journalism and vice president of the Reception Committee, Bobby Vardhan said.

The conference to be inaugurated by former bureaucrat C. S. Rao is scheduled to hold an open session on the first day where all the stakeholders in the education system are expected to discuss and deliberate the issues in education. On the second day, over 250 delegates are expected to chalk out a future plan of action.
