: The innovative initiative of the government in providing access to quality modular sports facilities to both urban and rural communities, which has been christened ‘Smile’ (Sports Minister’s Infrastructural Leap to Excellence), was inaugurated by Speaker G. Karthikeyan at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vithura, near here.

The project comprises various elements such as the establishment of 38 multi-sport play space, 2 four-lane synthetic track (measuring 100m), 16 long jump and 2 high jump pits with synthetic approach, 5 25-m swimming pools, 15 acrylic outdoor badminton courts, 1 synthetic surface for fustal (five-a-side-football) and 2 kabaddi and a pre-fabricated indoor sports community hall at 84 centres across the State, estimated to cost Rs. 20.69 crore.
