A sunny morning provided the perfect setting to display the country’s rich cultural heritage at the 64th Republic Day celebrations on the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground here on Saturday.
Cultural pageantry by 2,780 schoolchildren and a stunning motorcycle riding display by Swetha Ashwa team of the Corps of Military Police received applause from thousands of spectators gathered there.
Governor H.R. Bhardwaj hoisted the tricolour.
. Schoolchildren gave a performance for nearly an hour. Contingents from the Indian Air Force, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Karnataka State Reserve Police , City Armed Reserve, Home Guards, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme and Bharat Seva Dal, participated in the march-past.
Students of VLS Vidyasagar Primary and High School, Sri Maruthi Vidyamandir Primary and High Schools, VLS Convent and VLS International School and Ravi English School, Bangalore, presented a dance titled “Entede Bhanta”.
Students of Government High School danced to the tune of the song “Veera Bharateeyaru. The team won the second prize.Students of N.B.N. Vidya Mandir, Weavers’ Colony; Bannerghatta; Government High School, and Motherland English School, Guruppanapalya, Bangalore, secured the third prize. They presented a dance “Raitha Namana”.
