What is Qwikipedia?

Ever been on Wikipedia to look up an article? More often than not, we start with one topic, click a few links and within no time are reading about something else. Qwikipedia is a game that tries to quench this curiosity in us. The objective is to get to a particular wiki page, starting from a specific article, using minimal clicks. There is no single correct answer, so we might surprise ourselves by finding new routes each time!

Tuesday’s Traveller

Brunei —> Diego da Silva Costa

Did you read in yesterday’s Signpost page about Brunei getting ready for its first ever commercial movie made in the country? A Muslim-majority sultanate with Bandar Seri Begawan as its capital, Brunei is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia on the north coast of the island of Borneo. If you don’t take into account its coastline with the South China Sea, the entire nation is surrounded by Sarawak.

With vast areas of lowland and highland rainforests, Sarawak is one of two Malaysian states that are on the island of Borneo. As the largest Malaysian state, it houses a number of tourist attractions that include Kuching city, Gunung Mulu National Park and the Rainforest World Music Festival, the region’s premier world music event.

It was the Portuguese who first charted Borneo, though they did not settle in the region. The westernmost country in mainland Europe, Portugal is named after Porto, the country’s second largest city. Extending over a period of almost 600 years, the Portuguese Empire is notably the longest-lived of the modern European colonial empires.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Football is the most popular sport in Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, without any doubt, is the poster boy. Having already won many awards, including the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year, he would be keen to lead his side through the playoffs and seal a place in the 2014 World Cup.

Diego da Silva Costa

At the club level, Ronaldo plays as a forward for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid. He has been a prolific scorer right through his career, but at the moment finds himself in second place alongside Lionel Messi with 8 goals this season. Diego da Silva Costa, a Brazilian-Spanish footballer who plays for Atletico Madrid, is the league-leading scorer with 10 goals.

So the path that we have traversed today is:

Brunei —> Sarawak —> Portugal —> Cristiano Ronaldo —> Diego da Silva Costa

Four clicks! Hop over. It’s time for the next question:

Wednesday’s Wanderer

Malala Yousafzai —> Neil Gaiman
