Ayrton Senna —> Richard Branson

Ayrton Senna

A Brazilian racing driver and a Formula One World Champion thrice, Ayrton Senna is often considered as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. He held the record for the maximum number of pole positions since 1989 to 2006 and is the third most successful driver in terms of race wins in the sport. He was involved in a fatal accident in the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994 while he was in the leading position. During his career he raced for Lotus, McLaren, Toleman and Williams.

Team Lotus

Team Lotus is a motor racing team that has participated in all formats of racing including Formula One, Formula Two, IndyCar, Formula Junior and Formula Ford. It is considered as one of the most successful racing teams in the Formula One circuit with seven constructor’s titles and six drivers’ championships. During the 1960s and 1970s, it dominated the racing circuit and was guided by its founder and designer Colin Chapman. However, following his death in the early 80s the team struggled for a while with its car designs and saw its last race in the Australian Grand Prix in 1994. In 2010, it was revived by Tony Fernandes as Tony Fernandes’ Lotus racing team. In 2012, it was revamped to Lotus F1 team.

Tony Fernandes

Anthony Francis Fernandes or Tony Fernandes is best known for introducing the first budget airlines in Malaysia called AirAsia in 2001. He bought over an ailing AirAsia, which belonged to the Malaysian government and transformed it into a successful airline company by breaking even and clearing all the debts within a year of acquiring it. While many predicted that his move was unwise coming right after September 9/11 attacks Fernandes argued that it was the right time as aircraft leasing costs had reduced and lay-offs in the industry ensured easy hiring of experienced hands. Following his graduation, Fernandes briefly worked as an auditor for Virgin records owned by Richard Branson.

Richard Branson

Richard Charles Nicholas Branson is a British businessman and billionaire. He is the chairman and founder of Virgin Groups that includes the music label Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Branson is involved in several ecological and humanitarian activities. In 2007, he joined hands with a group of like-minded people that included Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter called The Elders who use their power, resources and skills to identify and address long-standing global conflicts and issues.
