Lake Malawi

It is the one of the deepest and largest lake of Africa. Lake Malawi is located between the three African countries – Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Lake Malawi has the privilege of being the ninth largest in the world. This lake which is about 560 kilometres long, also houses varieties of fish. Though the shorelines of the lake are shared by Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania, the geographic name of this great African lake is disputed. Malawi prefers to call it after its name whereas the other two claim the lake’s name to be Lake Nyasa.

The Republic of Mozambique is a Southeast African country which is rich in natural resources. Maputo is the capital city of this rapidly growing country. Though the economy of the country is based on agriculture, other sectors are also growing fast be it chemical manufacturing or petroleum production or food and beverages. The official language is Portuguese. The presence of Portuguese for more than five centuries has had its impact on every field including the cuisine of Mozambique. The use of spices, seasonings and wine were introduced by them.

Wine is a beverage which has alcohol and is made from fermented fruits, mostly grapes. The basic chemical composition of grapes helps them ferment without a catalyst. The yeast formed consumes the sugars in the grapes and then help in turning it into alcohol. Wine is named after the basic fruit that is used in its preparation.

A study has found that wine which is made from a special variety of grapes called the Cabernet Sauvignon grape lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
