: How would a post office function in the year 2050? P. Jai Surya’s thinks letters would be delivered to other planets while T.S Bhavya Mithra suggested the idea of a post office manned by a robot. These creative ideas are depicted through a painting in this year’s postal stamp and miniature brochure respectively, which was released by the Department of Posts in connection with Children’s Day celebrations here on Wednesday.
Winners of Group I and III of the annual All India ‘Design a stamp Competition — 2011’, eight-year-old Bhavya Mithra of Malappuram and P.Jai Surya, Plus One student at S.N. Public School, Kollam, said they were more than happy to have their designs used for the stamp and the miniature sheet released in connection with the Children's Day.
“The theme was ‘Post Office 2050’.
Fifty years from now, robots could handle the post office and there would be robotic postboxes that could deliver letters to your home and that is reflected in my painting”, said Mithra whose watercolour painting on the theme won her the first prize. The Kerala State Child Welfare Board also brought out a special stamp in connection with Children’s Day.
A painting by Ashika Santhosh, a Class 7 student of Rotary English Medium School, Thalassery, was reproduced on the stamp.
