The term “new generation” should not be used as an excuse to crack smutty jokes and make obscene conversations in the visual media, especially films, P.R. Nathan, novelist and scriptwriter, said here on Monday.

At the release of a short film, No Retakes , produced by the visual media research centre of the Indo-Arab Confederation Council, Mr. Nathan said some of the so-called new-generation film-makers were including offensive conversations in movies in the name of exposing, or disapproving of, the moral hypocrisy of society. “Such film-makers should think about the possible damage their works can cause to our culture and the sensibilities of our future generation,” he said.

Mr. Nathan asked upcoming filmmakers to be sensitive to the feelings and emotions of people while writing their scripts.
