Here are some of the reactions to last week's editorial on the phenomenon of stress among students

Bust stress

I wonder why students from grade 9 to 12 are barred from all entertainment activities. Why aren’t they allowed to attend their games periods?  Apart from regular periods, there should be at least one non-academic period a day for students to decompress and divert themselves from the monotonous learning process.

Holistic outlook

School education is the first environment outside the home where a child learns to interact with others. Therefore, it is very important for the school environment to be as comfortable and friendly as possible. Do not measure education only through academic performance, but also through the overall success and satisfaction of the individual.

Importance of infrastructure

Sports and cultural activities which can act as stress busters are to be given top priority in schools. In addition to the above what we want is, schools with immense expertise, modern infrastructure and a pollution free environment for a stress free study.

Good counselling

Ultimately, it is fear and despair which forces students to commit suicide. Counselling will be effective only if they display kindness and compassion. Teachers should be given formal training in counselling before they are entrusted the job of counselling. Professional counsellors from outside shall be appointed in every school. Cost should be viewed as investment, not expense.
