The Navy School for Special Children – Sankalp – run by Navy Wives’ Welfare Association, celebrated its 23rd anniversary with gaiety and splendour at the Samudrika Naval Auditorium on Thursday.

Extravaganza

The hour-long extravaganza showcased the special talent of the differently abled with a spectacular display of dance and drama.

The ‘Mohini Bhasmasura’ dance drama, a short skit on the life of Brahmarshi Valmiki and a foot-tapping Koli dance were some of the highlights of the programme enjoyed hugely by all present.

Principal Vimala Prasad and her team ensured that all children attending the school, each with their unique abilities, was on stage.

In her annual report, Ms. Prasad mentioned the activities the children participated in, that included creating jewellery and stationery items for sale during the Navy Mela, painting competitions and dance performances, among others.

Director General Naval Projects (Visakhapatnam), Vice Admiral Vijay Kumar Namballa, the chief guest on the occasion, lauded the efforts and congratulated the children on putting up an excellent show.

DPS students win medals

The World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation organised the AP State Open Invitational Karate Championship – 2013 to commemorate the 31st anniversary of Karate-Do on January 27 at the DRRMC Indoor Stadium in Vijayawada at which students of Delhi Public School won several prizes.

According to a press release from the school, the school Pro-Vice Chairman P. Narendra Babu, Dean S.B. Rao, staff and students of DPS congratulated the winners. Students have done remarkably well in the following events and have brought laurels it said: in Girls Kata – white belt winners are G. Shreya, M. Hanvita and V. Vinya, in yellow belt B.L. Krishna Kumari, M. Tanmayi, orange belt G. Sravani (second places).

Other winners are: team boys and girls winners - G. Rakesh, B. Narasimha, A. Mani Krishna and Chandana, G. Sravani, and B.L. Krishna Kumari.

Sakshi Spell Bee on Feb. 4

Out of 18 students who participated in the preliminary round of Spell Bee held recently at Vijayawada, ten students of Sri Prakash Synergy School passed with flying colours.

In Category I, M. Ahilesh and Ch. Sujay Prakash (Class III), Ch. Yagna Deepika (Class IV), A. Meghana, B. Vaishnavi and Ch. Parvathi (Class VI), M. Rohit Varma and P. Harshitha (Class VII to X), V. Mourya (Class VIII), T. Sanjeev (Class X) have been selected for pre-finals of Sakshi India Spell Bee. The competition was held in three different categories and the pre-finals would be held in Hyderabad on Monday.

The director of the school Ch. Vijay Prakash, dean of the school Smita Joshi congratulated the team for qualifying for pre-finals.
