Kozhikode, last year’s topper, hands over 117.5-sovereign gold cup

The gold cup of the 53rd edition of State School Art Festival reached Malappuram, the host district, on Thursday.

The 117.5-sovereign gold cup was heralded in a procession from the district border at Ayikkarapadi. Organising committee chairman P. Ubaidulla and procession committee chairman K.N.A. Khader, both MLAs, received the cup.

District panchayat president Suhara Mampad and reception committee chairman Salim Kuruvambalam received the cup from Kozhikode district Deputy Director of Education P. Gouri at the district’s border with Kozhikode.

Kozhikode was last year’s overall champions.

The cup was carried in an open vehicle in a convoy of 53 bikes symbolising the 53rd edition of the festival. The procession was given receptions at Pulikkal, Kondotty, Kottukara, Morayur, Athanikkal, Pookkottur, and Melmuri on the way to Malappuram.

The final reception was accorded at M.S.P. Higher Secondary School, adjacent to the main venue of M.S.P. Parade Grounds. District panchayat vice-president P.K. Kunhu; District Collector M.C. Mohandas; District Police Superintendent K. Sethuraman; Malappuram Municipal Chairman K.P. Mustafa; Deputy Director of Education K.C. Gopi; and reception committee convener K.K. Mohammed attended the reception.

A meeting of the light and sound committee of the school festival will be held at District Panchayat Hall here on Friday afternoon. Committee chairman C. Mammootty, MLA, will preside over the meeting. Convener M.K. Sanalkumar requested all panel members to attend the meeting.
