Malabar Mahotsavam awards declared

Kathakali maestro Guru Chemancherry Kunhiraman Nair has been chosen for the Kala Shreshta award for his contributions to the field of arts and culture.

The honour has been instituted to mark the 16{+t}{+h}Malabar Mahotsavam which is on in Kozhikode.

Kala Shreshta Award is given for artistes of north Kerala who work towards promoting classical dance or classical music, Moplah art forms, and theatre.

The Kala Ratnam awards for artistes from Kozhikode in the 25-50 age group who have devoted their life to classical dance, classical music, acting and Moplah arts went to Aswini V. Nair (dance), Sudha Ranjith (music), I.P. Siddique (Moplah arts) and Vinod Mekkoth (theatre).

The award winners were chosen by a jury consisting of Sree Ragaratnam P. Rajakumaranunni, Kalidas Puthumana, O.M. Kuruvarakundu and Vineetha Nedungadi.

The awards were announced by District Collector K.V. Mohankumar on Thursday.
