The Third All-India Open Knockdown Karate Championship, featuring both Kumite (fighting) and Kata(form) styles, will commence here on Saturday.
The two-day national event, across all age and weight categories, has been organised by the Kyokushin Bangalore School of Karate at Holy Cross Auditorium, Maruti Nagar, off Hosur Road near Madiwala. “The aim is to call together all karate styles to compete in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood,” Sensei Ravi Carvalho, Chief Instructor of the Kyokushin Bangalore School said in a press release. Over 200 fighters from karate schools in West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will compete in the championship, the release added. Acharya Sri Rakum, founder of the Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar will be the chief guest.
The Kyokushin Bangalore School was founded in 1990 and is a part of the Kyokushin International Karate Association, Japan. Its students have participated in international championships in Russia, Hungary, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, the press release added.
