Kakatiya festival to commence on December 21

The government has finally decided to commence the year-long celebrations of Kakatiya festival from December 21 at Warangal marking the 800th anniversary of the construction of famous Ramappa temple.

Inaugural functions of the celebrations will be organised for three days from this date at archaeological sites of Kakatiyas at Warangal--Thousand-Pillar temple and Warangal Fort besides, Ramappa temple. The celebrations will also be held at other important places, which form part of Kakatiya empire.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who finalised the dates at a meeting here on Thursday with Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah (Information Technology), B.Saraiah (Backward Classes Welfare) and D.K. Aruna (Information) and officials, also agreed to release a sum of Rs.1 crore immediately for the purpose.

Mr. Lakshmiah said a website for the festival would be launched soon.
