Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh, who is listed as one of the candidates likely to defect to YSR Congress, has given an ultimatum to the Indian National Congress.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Ramesh said that the Congress party was keeping the Telangana issue burning without taking proper decisions.

He said that he would resign from Assembly if the Central government announced the formation of a separate Telangana.

Mr. Ramesh said that the Congress party was keeping the issue alive for votes and seats in the legislative bodies.

Party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had been saying that the demand for Telangana was strong because people were staging dharnas and resorting to property damage.

Even leaders of the party have a wrong perspective of the problem, he claimed. He said that if destruction of public and private property was encouraged in this manner, the country would go to the dogs.

Mr. Ramesh said that he was “ashamed” of being an MLA in such a situation.
