This refers to the news report “2030: World Bank’s end poverty date” (The Hindu in School, April 22). Eradicating poverty especially in developing countries like India is a great task cut out. It is imperative that the corridors of power relentlessly improve the investment climate, create employment opportunities and thereby sustained income and output in the economy (‘Rhetoric’ however will not help). Also, they need to improve the infrastructure facilities (roads, bridges, canals, etc.) on a war-footing to keep pace with the growing population (particularly in cities) and enhance the economic growth.
