“Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back, and reasons to stay,” Tibetan spiritual leader in exile Dalai Lama said once. With that thought process as inspiration, P. Obul Reddy Public School has initiated a move to explore the latent talents in students, yet again.
Driven by students’ enthusiasm, the school held its first convention of the Mock United Nations (MUN) known as PORPSMUN-2013 on November 9 and 10 with academic assimilation. About 300 students from different schools in the twin cities represented various countries as delegates.
The conference featured six committees -- the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Disarmament and International Security Council, the Human Rights Council and the Special Council. The executive board of PORPSMUN-2013 was constituted with student diplomats holding portfolios to supervise and ensure smooth functioning of each council.
The participants played as diplomats representing countries in a simulated session of a committee of the United Nations. They investigated international issues, debated, deliberated, consulted and then worked out solutions to world problems. The MUN was organised to spread awareness about global issues among the students.

The tiny tots in colourful attire set the pace of the celebrations and the grandparents were overjoyed to see their little wonders dancing and singing to the tunes of their era. MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri participated as the chief guest and Moghalpura Corporator Mohammed Mukkaram Ali as the guest of honour.
The game ‘Tailing the Cat’ made the grandparents nostalgic and took them down the memory lane. ‘Passing the Parcel’, another game, was an interesting extension of fun and frolic. And to create an aura of happiness were a few warm up games. - Special Correspondent
