The deadline for submitting applications to private unaided schools under the Right to Education Act quota for underprivileged children has been extended till February 19.

The earlier deadline for submission under the 25 per cent quota was February 5.

According to a press release by the Education Department, the entire calendar of admissions will also be postponed now, with the admission process in schools starting on March 15.

The release by Director of Primary Education A. Devprakash added that the decision on extension had been taken following appeals by parents, who were finding it difficult to submit all documents on time.

Meanwhile, private school managements have expressed unhappiness over the extension.

“We are not happy with the decision to extend dates without seeking the opinion of the school managements' association, which was the assurance given during the previous meeting,” said Shashi Kumar D., organising secretary of the Karnataka State Private School Managements’ Federation.
