Egypt’s poet of the poor, Ahmed Fouad Negm, dies at 84
Ahmed Fouad Negm, the Egyptian poet famed for his political verse in the dialect of the people, died on Tuesday at the age of 84.
Egypt’s best-known poet was born to a poor family in a rural area and raised in an orphanage from the age of 7. He became a voice of the country’s poor and its leftist movement from the 1960s. DPA
