EC orders action against Modi for flashing party symbol

In the toughest action yet since the 16th Lok Sabha election scdhedule began on March 5, the Election Commission on Wednesday ordered filing of charges against the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for flashing his party election symbol at a meeting in Ahmedabad after he cast his vote.

The move came after complaints by political parties and other groups that it was a blatant violation of the Representation of People’s Act (RPA), 1951. Modi was pictured flashing the BJP’s electoral symbol lotus and taking a ''selfie'' at a meeting minutes after he cast his vote. B. Muralidhar Reddy
