Samskrutham, a dance festival to celebrate Sanskrit, has been organised at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) from January 11.
The three-day dance festival, organised by art promoter Usha R.K., will showcase six dancer duos performing Sanskrit compositions. Performances will begin with the traditional invocatory dance item on a Sanskrit prayer, followed by dance pieces on timeless poetic compositions of Sanskrit literary greats, a release said.
“As a language, it may have lost prominence but its inseparable relationship with Indian classical dances persists. Many of the compositions by literary greats are immortalised in our dances,” a press release said. Rajendra Srinivasan and Anju Nair will perform at 6.30 p.m. followed by Sathyanarayana Raju and Shama Krishna at 7.30 p.m. on Friday.
Anil Iyer and Medha Dixit will perform at 6.30 p.m. and Praveen Kumar and Soundarya Srivatsa at 7.30p.m. Saturday. Bishwa Bhushan Mohapatra and Madhulita Mohapatra will perform at 6.30 p.m. and Tushar Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday.
H.S. Venugopal (flautist), G. Gurumurthy (mridangist) and D.S. Srivatsa (vocalist) will be honoured for their contributions. Carnatic vocalist R.K. Padmanabha, Kuchipudi exponent Veena Murthy Vijay and Ananya managing trustee R.V. Raghavendra would be present.
