“A leader is at his best when people barely know he exists. When the work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say we did it ourselves,” said Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher.

The investiture ceremony 2012 of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, was held on June 29, to install student representatives. “My students are capable of handling both academics along with other responsibilities. I want my students to become responsible citizens of the country,” said Principal Maya Mohan.

The ceremony began with a prayer and the lighting of the lamp. The welcome speech was delivered by Vaidehi Menon, the newly appointed literary secretary. Ms Mohan also addressed the crowd which comprised parents of the previous badge-holders as well as the newly appointed badge-holders.

Rahul Menon was installed as the head boy and Sharon Ann Robson as the head girl. Steve Wilson, Aditya R. Mohan, Joseph Correya and Ancy Rex were installed as the vice-captains of Aravally, Satpura, Shivalik and Vindhya respectively. Mathew Josey is the sports captain and the sports secretaries are Arundathi Warrier and Gayathri Govind.

The literary committee would be led by Ashwin Menon, along with Karthik V. Nair, Vaidehi Menon, Retika Chopra and Prathiba Bhaskar. Sekhar S. will be in charge of the cultural committee and he would be helped in his endeavours by Arjun Ranjith, Adith R Nath, Vrinda, Nirupama V Nair, Minnu George and Sithara.

‘Chaitanya’ is a cultural and literary interschool event conducted every year by the school. The committee members are Joe Joseph, Aswin Rajeev, Rushabh Doshi, Thresy George, Renata A. Dias and Mohamed Irfan. The incoming science club members are Devika Nair and Rahul Gopinath.

While Vishnumaya, Sandeep H.M. and Amrutha P.J. are the senate members, Viswanath Pillai and Malavika Sankar are the newly-appointed student public relations officers for the academic year.

The outgoing head girl, Archana Shine read out the previous year’s report, which was followed by an acceptance speech by Sharon and Rahul Menon.

The newly installed badge holders took the oath read by Karthik V. Nair. A thanksgiving speech was delivered by Sekhar to all the outgoing badge-holders. One of the parents remarked, “It’s a wonderful opportunity bestowed upon our children for toning their multi-tasking skills.” The function ended with a vote of thanks by Ashwin Menon followed by the national anthem.

The investiture ceremony of Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, was held recently. Lt. Gen. Oomen P. Mathew graced the occasion and presented the badges. He exhorted students to have a positive outlook to life and to develop leadership qualities. A unique feature of the year’s election was the introduction of e-vote, in which students of Standards VI to XII participated. This saved a lot of time, labour and paper. Haron S. Mathew and Sreelakshmi S. of Standard XII were elected senior head boy and head girl.
