As many as 155 students of the NLC Girls’ School situated in Block 11 of the Neyveli Township became sick after taking mid-day meal in the school on Thursday.
Soon after taking food, the girls started vomiting and complaining of stomach ache. They were rushed to the NLC General Hospital for treatment. The probable reason for the sickness could the egg preparation served along with the meal.
The NLC general hospital sources said that it was a symptom of “food infection.” Of the affected students 13 were administered drips and the remaining students were given tablets. The students, all studying from Class 6 to 8, would be kept under observation. None of them is serious.
The Food Inspector is inspecting the food served and the kitchen where the meal was prepared. Anxious parents gathered in front of the hospital that caused tension. The school did not function in the afternoon session.
