Archery is all set to take the world of sport by storm, as a high school team demonstrated.The Hyderabad Region Bagged the championship with 21 Gold, 22 Silver and 15 Bronze Medals.
After the resounding success of Indian archer Abhinav Bindra in the 2008 Olympics, archery has become a favourite sport among school children. Enthusiasm for this sport has reached such levels that the Navodaya Vidyalaya at Bagalur near Bangalore has raised an entire team of archers all in high school. And they came out in flying colours.
The contingent recently came out victorious at the National Meet on Archery at Jaipur, conducted by the Ministry of Human Resources Development under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India.
The school had sent 28 young archers to the meet, out of which 21 were selected for participating in the national meet of the federation in January 2009.This is the tenth consecutive year in which the team, which represents the Hyderabad Region, has been victorious. This region bagged the overall championship with 11,439 points, bagging 21 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze medals. The best archery team award was bagged by the Bangalore Urban Navodaya team.According the Parent Teacher Council Shamsundar Adi, the team had been performing consistently well during the last decade and this year their achievement was extraordinary.
The Principal of the school, Ms. Anuradha, and the Archery Coach of the Bagalur Navodaya school, Ms. A. Anasuya, have commended the achievement.
