The St. Antony's Higher Secondary School, Valiathura, celebrated Golden Jubilee year recently. The celebration was inaugurated at the school by Governor R.L. Bhatia. Delivering the inaugural address, the Governor said the purpose of education should be to equip students to face the challenges of life with confidence. Devotion and dedication should be the watchword of anyone dealing with knowledge, Bhatia said referring to the commitment shown by the rulers of erstwhile Travancore and the Christian missionaries in promoting education in the State. The Archbishop of Latin Catholic Diocese M. Susaipakiam, urged the students to nurture the habit of helping people in distressful situations. He narrated a parable to the students about a disciple who under the guidance of his teacher turned into a man of compassion to drive home the message. As part of the celebrations, various cultural, literary and social service programmes would be organised throughout the year at the school. According to the school authorities, St. Antony's H.S. School established in 1957 was the first educational institution in the coastal area of the city to complete 50 years. INPUTS BY S.K.
