SUSHMA BARVATHAYA

It was a treat for children to participate in such a variety of competitions…

It was a rare opportunity for tiny tots to exhibit their talent in sports and have a dash of fun as well. Games have the added advantage of winning prizes.

The Besant School recently held a Kids Meet, an inter-primary school sports event in which the kids of Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa, won the overall championship.

The winners

The event saw the participation of over 200 students from 21 schools from all over Mangalore.

Apart from the regular athletic events such as long jump, sprint and shuttle relay, entertaining events such as standing long jump, picking up chocolates, paper race and frog race were organised. The host Besant School bagged the second place. Deeksha M, of Std. IV, Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa, said that she enjoyed herself by motivating her friends to participate and win. She was not disheartened to get the third prize — any prize was a great feeling, she said.

Jeevan M U with two first prizes, instrumental in the school getting the overall championship, said that he was very happy to bag the prize in the frog race despite adapting to a different style than what he was taught in school.
