The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Shri Venkateswara Matric H.S. School, Thanjavur, recently celebrated World Earth Day. M.K. Ramamoorthy, Thanjavur Urban Assistant Elementary Education Officer, who was the chief guest gave tips to the students to safeguard the earth from pollution threat. He also planted saplings in the school playground.

S. Gowri, senior principal of the school, felicitated the students for their valuable services.

G. Jaishankar, school principal-cum NSS coordinator, suggested tips to reduce the use of refrigerators, air-conditioners and motor vehicles.

The NSS volunteers conducted a debate on protection of the ozone layer, methods to reduce emission of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, with emphasis on planting of trees and rainwater harvesting.
