The Regional finals of 12th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz-2011, held for the second year in Hubli provided a chance to the students of North Karnataka to showcase their knowledge.
It was that time of the year again when the talented students of North Karnataka got an opportunity to put to test their quizzing skills and thereby take home cash prizes and lots of goodies. Like last year, the event evoked great interest among students, teachers and their parents with as many as 207 teams from 56 schools participating in the event and it was a rewarding experience for everyone.
Apart from the six finalists, every participant took home a lot of goodies provided by the sponsors and had a taste of what a quiz conducted by professionals would be like. , Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan engaged them with mind teasing questions and giving away prizes for the right answers.
Although the six finalists took time to settle down in the regional finals, it was close competition towards the end. With a difference of only seven points between the top two teams, the last question provided a chance to the second team comprising Vighnesh Hegde and Pranav Pise of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Belgaum, to ‘go for the kill'. However they played defensively and lost the race.
Vishmaksh Kaushik and Chaitanya Hegde of Jindal Vidya Mandir of Toranagallu in Bellary district had the last laugh. Now they get a chance to win the grand cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and Tata Nano cars at the grand finale to be held at Thiruvnanthapuram on November 14.
Kshitij Rathore and Utkarsh Ujwal of KLE International School were second runners up.
Akash Naik and Vinayak M.S. of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dharwa; Gourav Singhi and Sachin G. Kalburgi of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Hubli; Anup Patil and Pranav M.M. of Sri Manjunatheshwar Central School, Dharwad, finished fourth fifth and sixth.
Hubli Dharwad Police Commissioner K. Ramachandra Rao gave away the trophies and prizes to the winners and lauded the initiative taken by The Hindu group for providing the students of the region an opportunity to participate in a quality quiz event.
