Table tennis anyone? Then watch out for these two champs.
The recently concluded AP ranking table tennis tournament at Hyderabad brought smiles on the faces of Krishna District Table Tennis Association administrators, as young M. Mrudhula and Saira Banu performed excellently against champion paddlers from Hyderabad.
Mrudhula, Std. VIII student of St Ann’s High School, Ajit Singh Nagar, defeated Hyderabad’s K. Bhavana 4-1 in the final to win the sub-junior girls title, while Saira, a Subodhaya Public School student, finished runner-up in the cadet girls segment, bowing out to K. Sirisha of Rajahmundry 3-2.
Cynergy Per4mers Inc, a California-based sports promotion company, sponsored both these paddlers.
“In the six ranking tourneys held so far, Mrudhula has won sub junior titles twice, while Saira stormed into the final for the first time. Attack is their forte. The hallmark of these girls is their commitment give their 100 per cent,” said B. Srinivas, coach at the Ajit Singh Nagar stadium.
Ajit Singh Nagar on the outskirts is emerging as a hub of the TT activity.
“More than 30 players from in and around Ajit Singh Nagar attend the practice session regularly. Parents from the lower middle class segment are evincing interest in table tennis and are allowing their wards to take up the game seriously,” said KDTTA secretary B. Uday Kumar.
The recently acquired ball-spraying machine by KDTTA has also come as a boon to the young paddlers as novelty was added in their training regime.
