National Technology Day

The Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai, and the Anna Science Centre – Planetarium, Tiruchi, jointly celebrated National Technology Day recently.

May 11 is annually observed as National Technology Day all over India to commemorate technological breakthroughs like mastering of nuclear weapons technology (Pokharan II) through a series of controlled tests at Pokharan, test firing of the indigenously developed Trishul missile and test flight of the indigenous aircraft Hansa-3. These achievements indicated the resurgence of Indian Technology. P.N. Umayorubahan, former General Manager, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited – Power sector, was the chief guest. He interacted with the students and cleared their doubts. He also distributed prizes to the winners of the drawing competition on the topic “bio-diversity” organised by the Planetarium in connection with Earth Day celebrations.

T.M. Alagiri Swamy Raju, project director (in-charge), Anna Science Centre – Planetarium, J.R. Pazhaniswamy, Senior Scientific Assistant, explained the significance of the day.
