THE SNEHA SCHOOL: Reaching greater heights

JAIDEEP SHENOY

Education and co curricular activities are equally important here.

Nestled amidst the verdant, spacious and serene settings, some 1.25-kms from Sullia town on the Sullia-Madikeri road is the Sneha School complex. Established by Sneha Shikshana Samsthe, the Sneha English medium high school and Sneha Kannada medium primary school have rendered yeoman service to the cause of furthering education in this headquarters of picturesque Malnad Taluk. The Sneha Shikshana Samsthe started its foray into the field of education by setting up the unaided Kannada medium primary school in 1996. It has grown in both size and stature during the past decade and prides itself in imparting value-based education based on Indian culture to its students. The management lays equal emphasis on both education and co curricular activities. The Samsthe organised several programmes including literary and cultural during the course of academic year to mark its decennial celebrations. The grand finale of the yearlong celebration was held on Visu day with Vidushi Shyamala G. Bhave presenting a Hindustani and carnatic musical concert. A souvenir Dasha Darshana too was released to mark the occasion at the valedictory function.

Educational programmes

For Chandrashekar Damle, president of the Samsthe, the past decade has been one of achievements. The Samsthe is the effort of a group of friends, who include academicians, doctors, engineers and industrial entrepreneurs. Their sole objective is to ensure academic excellence by providing holistic education for the all round development of every student. The beauty of the school surroundings is heightened by the flower garden raised with aesthetic sense. Once a student enters the school campus, there is no chance of distraction either of sight or sound. Round shaped class rooms, sand filled play home, the rock based art room, amphitheatre and the herbal garden are some of the attractions, which stoke and nurture the creativity of students, he points out.Another specialty of this institution is that classes during the searing summer months are conducted under the trees on its sprawling campus. This unique arrangement reminds one of the ancient gurukul system where the student listened to their gurus in natural settings. The natural surroundings of the campus also enable students to enjoy nature at its pristine best. While ensuring that every student receives personal attention from teachers, the Samsthe takes keen interest in imparting training in yoga, pranayama and physical exercise to its students. They are exposed to music, dance, painting, yakshagana, karate and other artistic talents. Students are introduced to Indian culture and heritage, folk art and other teaching aids in the learning process.
