In the initial days of Lok Adalat, there were several apprehensions on how it would work. Successful functioning Lok Adalat has cleared all the doubts. Lawyers are encouraging their clients to file petitions with the Lok Adalat for quick settlement of their cases. Lok Adalat is nothing but an open court, where the objective of the judges is to settle the case either by bringing about a compromise between plaintiff and respondent or by imposing fine on the guilty. It will be conducted at all designated areas and the legal services authority concerned announced the date of conduct of Lok Adalat for the benefit of litigant public. "Lok Adalat is a successful concept everywhere. In Vijayawada too, there is an increase in the number of cases being cleared in Lok Adalats every passing year," says D. Isaac Prabhakar, Metropolitan Sessions Judge. As many as 2,551 cases were resolved by conducting 296 Lok Adalats in the district between November 2005 and October 2006.
