Welcome to Barney and friends who are on their first trip to India.Last Month, it was Jetix. And this month, it is Barney and Friends. Barney and Friends, comprising the popular children's television characters, Barney, Baby Pop and BJ, watched by most of you on Pogo, are on their maiden India visit this February. Having given a sneak peek of their antics specially created for Indian children at a media meet in New Delhi on February 15, all three of them were seen performing for two hours two days straight at the city's Siri Fort Auditorium. They performed a musical theatre, comprising a medley of songs, in the weekend (February 17 and 18) in four shows starting at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and finally at 6.30 p.m. to a full auditorium of children of different ages accompanied by their parents and friends.
Kids timeCo-promoted by Pogo, Barney and Friends have been brought to India by Just Because It's Children (JBC) through a tie-up with MEI Entertainment, the official licensee of Barney Big Funtime. Kavita Bedi, Director, JBC, says, "Just as we give our children international brands to wear or foreign cuisines to experiment with, similarly we need to provide them with wholesome entertainment that is recognised across the world." Monica Tata, Vice President, Advertising, Sales and Networks, India and South Asia, Turner India, says, "We hope to bring more such shows to India."To add a few details about the birth of Barney and Friends, these cartoon characters have been created by Sherly Leach of Dallas, U.S. She is a former teacher who, went about looking for a TV show that was suitable for her son, and ended up creating these lovable animation characters in 1987.
