Mithun have played an instrumental role in the success of Srirangam Boys Higher Secondary School team at various levels.The team defended the Tiruchi District Cricket Association (TDCA) schools league title overcoming stiff challenges from some of the city schools.
The playersA Std. XII student, Pradeep top scored in the tournament, while Parthiban of Std. XI scalped 11 wickets.V. Srinath of Std. XI led the Tiruchi under-17 team at the inter-district tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy, while S.R. Mithun of Std. X captained the Tiruchi under-15 team. All these youngsters play for Neptune Cricket Club in the TDCA league and their coach R. Raja Srinivasan says the experience has helped them a great deal.Pradeep and Parthiban also bagged the "Best Batsmen" and "Best Bowler" awards respectively last year for their good performances in the schools league.The youngsters train regularly during weekends and learn the nuances of the game from their coach. They also practise along with State player R. Sathish, when he is available, and get useful tips from him. "These youngsters are willing to learn and also make use of the opportunities available. They have a good future, provided they perform consistently well in the upcoming tournaments," Raja Srinivasan adds.The Head Master of the school, V. Ramanujam, commended the performance of the young cricketers.
