Almost all the books that we read are printed on non-recycled paper. This has caused the destruction of age-old forests in countries like Finland and Canada. In Canada, environmental groups have been working with publishers, encouraging them to use recycled paper to print their books. The campaign has been successful and several authors have pledged their support. Even the Canadian edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was printed on 100 per cent post-consumer paper – thus saving thousands of hectares of Muggle forests.
