Earth Day was celebrated with much gusto.
With the aim of uniting people's voice against destruction of natural resources and taking effective measures to save the planet, the Regional Science Centre observed “Earth Day” in Tirupati, in association with Animal Care Land and Earth Day Network. Students took part in the weeklong celebrations.
Different activities
There was a painting competition on “Water in daily life - Consumption and conservation”, a family science quiz on “The planet Earth”, slogan writing on “Save the Earth”, Speak and Share (elocution) contest on “Population explosion – Impact on Earth”, paragraph-writing contest on “Climate change”, map-pointing contest, crossword puzzle on “Earth science” and a open house science quiz on “The science of Earth”.
RSC coordinator, K. Madan Gopal, advised the students to sensitise elders on environmental issues and climate change, while Animal Care Land founder, N.V. Sreekanth Babu, highlighted the need for coexistence with plants and animals.
In the valedictory session, V. Rajagopal, Director (retired) of Central Plantation Crop Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasargod (Kerala) was the chief guest and he explained the need for securing renewable energy for all and a sustainable future for our planet.
