The Bal Bharti Public School at Ganga Ram Hospital Marg celebrated its annual day recently. The programme began with a recital of select ragas in the Indian classical style. They were rendered by the school orchestra "Raga Ritu Rang" comprising 110 students. Varun Kumar, a high school student and also an Indian Idol finalist rendered the ragas melodiously. The performance concluded with beats of the yesteryears "Aaj Kal Tere Mere" in instrumental. Thereafter the school's choir presented "Udaan" - a musical programme predominantly in the Bengali folk tradition beginning with a Vedic hymn.The cultural programme followed. The song and dance item "Choo Le Aasma" was by a group of tiny tots from the primary section. The highlight of the evening was the dance drama "Idhar Ek Main Hoon," a visual treat by 70 dancers. An amalgamation of folk based music and dance styles were extensively used to convey the narrative. Aditya Kapoor who was adjudged the best actor in drama, played the lead role in this dance drama.An exhibition of art and craft items was on. The highlights of the exhibition were the Madhubani paintings made by the senior students and paper toys by the middle school students. The chief guest Ajay Maken the Minister of State for Urban Development congratulated the students for an "excellent academic result". Padma Shri Shobha Deepak Singh, director, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, was the guest of honour.
