Challenging posers, interesting answers and hilarious moments were the highlights at The Hindu Young World quiz.
Which is the largest phylum in the animal kingdom? How long did Mahatma Gandhi take to reach Dandi from Sabarmati Ashram? These were some of the interesting posers thrown during The Hindu Young World quiz held in Madurai on October 18.
The ninth edition of the quiz was the best in terms of quizzing and amusement. The auditorium was overflowing with cheering kids and parents. Prizes to the audience were also in abundance.
The quizmaster, V.V. Ramanan, was at his usual best and the preliminary round saw 388 teams competing for the super six regional finals. The quiz saw a heady mix of questions from history, biology, culture and cinema. The audience too had glimpses of hilarious moments with interesting answers. They also had a moment to tap their feet to music as the famous remix of Vasantha Mullai song from a recent movie was played to be identified.
The 60-minute intense quizzing saw R. Srimukundan and S. Siddharth of Mahatma Montessori Matric H.S. School, K.K. Nagar, Madurai, emerge winners. Popular orator and debater S. Raja distributed the prizes.
The other teams that made it to the regional final were Vikaasa School, Madurai; TVS Matric H.S. School, Madurai; S. S.V. Sala Matric H.S. School, Melur; Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Golden Jubilee Matric H.S. School, Tirunelveli, and Mahatma Montessori Matric H.S. School, Baba Building, Madurai.
The title sponsor of the event was Extramarks.com. The associate sponsors were DC Books Mango, Pepsico Cheetos, Kissan Amaze Brainfood and Vizag Steel Plant. The national sponsors were Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Reynolds, State Bank of Travancore, Penguin Books, Firefox Bikes and Lotte Caramilk.
