With reference to “After the floods” by Anjali Kamat (September 23), the dark and ugly side of America’s glitzy life is an eye-opener for those who believe that prosperity ensures the well-being of the people.

Though the government has sanctioned $114 billion for rehabilitation schemes, one is still apprehensive about the future of African-Americans trapped in a “privatised, gentrified, and militarised” world supported by the Americans.
