I t certainly was an India Shining moment. Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, said during a recent visit that Wikipedia was now looking to set up its second office in India. Project “Goal 2015,” said Wales “is all set to woo a strong and healthy India. For me, India is the perfect place because we wish to work with a variety of people and India has a lot of communities. These communities should lead and Wikipedia Foundation will follow.” The project hopes to reach out to 100 million Indians.
Wales said he was hoping to make the pan-Indian experience via Wikipedia more substantial. He added that, unlike other countries, India still opted to use English versions. “We would like to see that balance corrected and have more people here contribute articles and participate in active editing in other regional languages,” said Wales adding, “The local language edits across India are rising each year and we want to promote high activity in this area.”
