Every family needs to invest in sturdy and reliable home safe as there are no second chances once tragedy strikes
The most convenient and comfortable place for anyone to keep valuables today is their own home. However even at home, one faces the risk of burglary, fire and water damage. And it can lead to a lot of worries about where a family should safely store their documents, cash, jewellery and other valuables. The solution is not in running to the bank locker to get valuables that you use on a regular basis.
The convenient option is to invest in a good home safe. Every family needs to invest in a safe, sturdy and reliable home safe because there are no second chances once tragedy strikes.
There are a variety of safes that can be purchased for home use. These can range from the simple mechanical lock safes to advanced safes that are burglary and fire resistant. Following are the three broad categories of safes:
a) Home safes with mechanical & electronic locks: The simplest start at approximately Rs.4,199 and have mechanical/electronic locks. The electronic locks for this range are simple digital number pad locks with 4 to 6 digit passwords.
b) Home safes with advanced features: They have electronic locks that can be opened with the swipe of a debit/credit card or use fingerprint recognition as a unique password. These safes also offer more space than traditional safes.
c) Fire & burglar resistant safes: The most advanced of the lot, they can withstand attacks from cutting torches and drills and fire accidents. The duration for which these safes can withstand attacks of such nature and keep the contents safe varies, depending on the material used and the needs of the customer.
A safe used for home security usually is not as large and most safes that are bought for basic home purposes are not fire resistant. In addition, the safes that are bought for commercial purposes are heavier and larger with a much higher level of resistance to both fire as well as attacks from various tools such as cutting torches and drills used by burglars today.
The most advanced commercial safes incorporate the use of CCTV technology with motion sensors and multiple locks including both mechanical and electronic locks to ensure a much higher level of security. This level of security is not required in safes that are used at home.
The contents that we need to protect -- This plays an extremely important role in determining the safe we need. For example, there are safes built to keep laptops in, so that any sensitive information that maybe on the laptop is protected at all times. It is also provided with a charging point. In case there is a need to protect valuables, such as extremely important documents, the use of a fire-resistant safe is recommended and for valuables like jewellery, a burglar resistant one.
The threat perception – If one wants to protect small amounts of cash, gold etc. what one can do is choose a safe that is thicker in nature and gives the basic levels of security. Choosing a very heavy safe and one that can be bolted to your wall or within the wardrobe will not be necessary. More fragile contents may require both burglary and fire-resistant safes that are large and heavy. A fire-resistant safe is advisable to protect important documents and a burglar resistant safe for safeguarding jewellery.
