The Institute of Rail Transport was established to promote the study of the science and art of rail transport and management. The institute’s headquarters is at New Delhi and it has branches at all nine zonal Railway Headquarters -Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, Gorakhpur and Secunderabad.
The institute offers the following four diploma courses:
1. Diploma in Rail Transport and Management
2. Transport Economics and Management
3. Multi-Modal Transport (Containerisation) and Logistics Management
These courses are one-year correspondence courses recognised by the Ministry of Railways.
