75 per cent of professionals still depend on referrals, says survey

Professional service providers such as chartered accountants, lawyers and company secretaries in India work in a highly unorganised manner as three-fourths of them still depend on referrals to seek assignments, says a survey.

According to a survey by MeetUrPro.Com, an online marketplace for professional services, professionals including chartered accountants, lawyers, company secretaries are still dependent on their friends and families for their assignments.

It said that they were underpaid and had to wait more than two months in certain cases after completion of their assignments for getting their payment.

“The professional services sector in India is a highly unorganised one. There is no avenue that a professional in India can source work from except through his personal network,” said Divakar Vijayasarthy, co-founder, MeetUrPro.Com.

Vijayasarthy further said the fact that almost the entire sector was away from the online revolution was a dampener.

The survey suggests that only 10 per cent of the professionals get their assignments online.

“Going online will help them access a larger and diverse set of clients, different kinds of work requirements across geographies and thus be assured of good compensation at par with their international counterparts,” he added.

The pan-India survey was conducted online on 800 professionals including CAs, lawyers, company secretaries, cost accountants and professionals from other services.
