EAT SMART What if you can burn calories just by eating! It's possible, says DR. PREETAISH KAUL
Every calorie counts and every negative calorie discounts! The healthcare industry is revolutionised by new breakthroughs every passing day. The theory of negative calories has gained immense mileage in the recent years changing the weight-loss and health scenario worldwide.
What are negative calories and do some foods actually have negative calories? All kinds of foods have some amount of calories in them. Negative calorie foods are those which use more calories to digest than the calories that the food contains! Calories from these foods are much difficult for the body to breakdown and process and hence require more calories. Thus there is actually, no food called a negative calorie food. But the overall effect of these foods on our body is that they result in burning of calories rather than gaining them! Negative calorie food offers great nutrition and also helps in losing weight, that too by gobbling food!
There is a wide variety of negative calorie foods which are easily available. In fact, there are a large number of dishes that combine negative calorie food with a delicious and a healthy meal. You can eat these in ample measure to lose extra fat and to become fit naturally.
Some negative calorie vegetables and fruits commonly found are asparagus, apricot, gourd, broccoli, peaches, cabbage, lettuce, strawberries, raspberries, cauliflower, peppers, spinach, watermelon, tomato, radish, nuts, carrots, plums, grapefruit, lemon, mango, onion, orange, papaya, pineapple, turnip, zucchini and much more.
There are several negative calorie foods that one can try and incorporate into one's diet on an everyday basis to burn fat and lose weight. Also, these foods are some of the healthiest when it comes to weight loss.
However a diet using only negative calorie foods can be harmful as the body requires all nutrients in a balanced manner. Hence a diet full of only negative calorie foods will not only be boring, but unhealthy as well. An excess of everything, including even healthy foods, can be bad. They can be great supplements to our daily meals on a regular basis but not complete meals in themselves.
Replacing some of your easily prepared and irresistibly delicious food can be extremely difficult initially, but their after-effects are just non-comparable. So instead of that Italian pizza, why not add some extra lettuce, broccoli, spinach, or some other leafy greens in your meal and remain fit for a longer time?
That high-sugar sweet dish at the end of your meal can be substituted with some yoghurt and strawberries or may be nuts! Nuts are a great substitute for a sweet dish. A handful of almonds or walnuts instead of chocolates and candies can do wonders to your health. They not only have negative calories but they are also great source of vegetable protein. Also, they can boost the immune system and help in lowering cholesterol. Some nuts that are attributed with negative calories are almonds, chestnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, pistachios and walnuts. Even squeezed lemon in a glass of water can be a negative calorie food. Most citrus fruits are negative calorie foods, and they also have nutrients that your body needs. Fizzy drinks can be replaced by green tea which again has negative calorie attributes.
Weight loss through negative calorie foods can be a long term process but it's a healthy way of losing weight. You will not only burn calories and lose weight but also give valuable nutrients to your body. So rearranging your diet plan is a far cry now!
