Eating Out The four-course meal at Zaica’s transports one to the grand era of the Mughals

There is something royal, yet homely about the ambience in Zaica. The tables are laid out in grand style. And as we seat ourselves to enjoy a delectable meal, we are immediately served a refreshing drink, a mocktail of pineapple and mango. It chills and thrills and we are ready for soup and starters to be served.

The Paya Shorba, a mutton soup, is a lovely blend of spices in the right proportions; a fitting start to a grand meal that is to follow. The Dahi Papdi Chat served next is crunchy, tangy, sweet and salty. One helping isn’t enough. Next up is the vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters. The variety is stunning. Even a hard-core non-vegetarian won’t be able to resist the Zaica Platter Veg. The winner is clearly the Reshmi Paneer Tikka—soft, succulent, served in generous proportions, the paneer is marinated to perfection.

The non-vegetarian starters are an array of absolutely yum meats. If the meats are done well, half the battle of making a good non-vegetarian dish is won. And the meats are done splendidly in the Mahi Afghani, Bhatti Ka Tikka, Jhinga Balaika and Gosht Burha Kabab.

This is the sort of meal that satiates you within the first three dishes. But the divine aromas of spices and roasted meats won’t allow you to say no. So the Murgh Biryani and Murgh Do Pyaza, which look irresistible, are eaten with relish. The vegetarian main course is equally delectable: Veg Biryani, Dal Bukhara and Maheer Paneer.

After that royal meal, one would crave for a mouth freshener, sauf or better still, pan? The pan ice cream takes care of both your pan and sweet desires. The gajjar halwa and gulab jamun are the other must tries.

Zaica is located on number 2010, HAL 2{+n}{+d}Stage, 100 foot Road, Indiranagar (above Staples). For reservations call 080 41201745.
