COOL COTTONS Fabrics that breathe are best for summer

Summer has set in early this time and the stores in the city are all set to beat the heat with their excellent range for summer. `Simple and subtle yet stylish and graceful' seems to be the fashion mantra for this season.Although cool cottons is the buzzword for summer wear, linens and linen- blend fabrics are catching up as the season's hot favourites. "Indo Western wear, 36-length cotton tops with denim jeans is the core seller," says Lakshman Sreenivas, managing partner of Parthas. "Boot cut pants are out and slim fit is in," he adds. Knit fabrics with hundred per cent cotton and voile tops of `W' brand in soft colours is in vogue among young women. Sheela James of Czarina says, "All natural fabrics that breathe, whether indoors or outdoors, are best suited for this season. Our summer sari collection includes golden tissue woven Kotas with antique work, Varanasi super net Kotas, Jamdani cotton saris from West Bengal and rich cotton saris from across the country." Inner U has an elegant range of summer collection, especially Gadwal cottons saris, super net Kotas with tussar border, jute cottons, Organdi saris and so on.

"Designer Kerala saris in block print or with exquisite sequins or embroidery work gives one the comfort of cotton and still look very elegant and feminine," feels Titty Thomas of Inner U.Khadi fabrics, colourful Ikkats with Kalamkari prints and Jaipuri cotton tops accentuated with sequins around the neckline are the season's pick in Ethnic Weaves, says entrepreneur Kunjumol Cyriac. "These fabrics go with terracotta jewellery and look trendy and ethnic," she adds. Organdi, pure cottons, Kotas and soft cottons reign in fashion street. These fabrics, embellished with hand block prints, scattered with badla or highlighted with chamki or mirror work, suit almost all occasions. Spun cotton salwars in bright colours are perfect for evening wear. Silky Way has a splendid summer collection of colourful cotton tops with delicate crocheted dupattas. "Khadi printed cotton tops with Patiala pyjamas in Georgette go with shaded dupattas and add a dash of colour to summer wear," says Shanthi Ramasubbu, who runs the boutique. Chiffons are best suited for summer evenings and look gorgeous in innovative colour combinations and designs. The colours of the season are lilac, turquoise blue, baby pink, lime green, beige and cream. Cream colour kurtis with chudi pants and crushed duppattas is chic.Among the prints, Kalamkari is predominant: be it for kurtis, salwars, saris or capris. The mango prints have made their re-entry into the fashion scene. The summer dressing fever is catching up, and its time you get kitted out with the best summer wear in town.
